Web hosting

Web hosting is the server where the site's files physically live and from which the site is served to browsers. It's its own separate cost from building the site.

Also known as: Hosting, Server space

Why it's worth checking who manages it

Before ordering a site, it's worth checking whose name the hosting is under and who manages it, so the site doesn't depend on one specific person.

What the cost depends on

A lightweight, static site needs little server capacity, so hosting is often very cheap or included in a maintenance plan. Heavier, database-driven sites need more capacity and cost more as a result.
